Since the Teams success in Rás Maigheo with the overall General Classification win, a stage win and an 8th overall on General Classification a number of weeks back the Team have had some ups and downs. We’ve had a trip to the hospital, riders being upgraded and a good showing at the Davis Cup promoted by Cunga CC.
Unfortunately for Daire Feeley he was to face plant at the inaugural Des Hanlon race held in Carlow. With stitches need on his wounds and the need for some X-rays to check severity of injuries his day at one of the hardest one day events on the Irish cycling calendar was over after only 30km. Apparently he asked his Director Sportif while lying with his two eye full of blood “will we get back on?” Thankfully all the injuries were cosmetic and after a trip and some treatment by the wonderful staff at Portlaosie Hospital he’s was on his recovery path. The new race clothing supplied & sponsored by www.kalas.ie also stood up well to the challenge of the Carlow tarmac with all the staining and blood stains washing out thanks to the super quality of the fabric and design feature in the clothing. A big shout out also to www.oneillcycles.com who stripped and rebuilt the Moda Finale Machine the Team is using for 2015. O’Neill Cycles are equipment and Moda Finale suppliers to Team iTap and have a driving force in keeping the riders equipment in 100% top shape this season.
The Davis Cup A1/A2 race was a hard day at the Office! for the riders. The race was run in typical west of Ireland conditions with howling gales and horizontal race and hail. The race promoted by Cunga CC is base in Claremorris and features rolling roads and 5 laps of a 25km circuit for a total of 125km. All the iTap riders finished what was a hard day out resulting in approximately 20 riders finishing from the 60 who started. Preliminary results for our own riders are Feeley 9th, Brody 11th and Bailey 12th with David Brody taking the 1st unplaced A2 prize. Thanks to @iamjimmymcelroy for the of Darragh Bailey left above.
It’s also been such a pleasure having O’Neill Cycles and Kalas Sportswear partnering and sponsoring the Team with the supply of vital equipment and clothing and also our coaching & athlete services provider The Athlete Clinic for managing the riders form development & recovery.
With the bank holiday weekend 3rd, 4th, 5th, & 6th April coming up we have had to split our team with Daire Feeley (A1) guesting into Killorglin CC for Rás Mumhan and the other riders all being (A2) will be traveling to the Gorey 3 Day. With Time trials TT Bike aero helmets, hill top finished and fast racing it will prove to be an entertaining weekend for all. Weather is also promised good which is a bonus here in Ireland for this particular weekend.
Then on the 18th & 19th of April the Team will be heading to Visit Nenagh for the weekend. The Team will start the Team Time Trail on the Saturday and also the Visit Nenagh Classic Road Race on the Sunday. This is a typical classic Belgium style race on the Sunday and always entertains with trips for the riders through the town of Nenagh and up and down every lump and bump race director Rene Van Dam can find.
We will be finishing off our block of racing with a trip to AmberGreen Energy Tour of Ulster which is set for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th of May. With strong international competition competing in this event it prove a good test for Team iTap.
To all the race organisers/helpers/marshals etc thank you for putting the races on over these weekends on your own time and in a voluntary capacity we at Team iTap recognise this a 110% appreciate your commitment. To all the riders please be sensible, safe, professional and even if your going backwards do it with a bit of dignity and manners and lets all have an enjoyable time in suffering or success.
We will also be providing live updates from The Gorey 3 Day on our twitter feed @iTap215 throughout the course of the weekend from inside the team car.
