It was great to get our first race of the 2015 season of to a dry and cool start. Darragh Bailey and David Brody lined out in their first ever event as a senior rider after moving up from the Junior ranks in 2014. The two lads started the A3 event and with Bailey quickly heading up the road to start the break of the day with two other riders it looked like the writing was on the wall. With Bailey in the break Brody was doing the monitoring behind following all the moves looking for a handy lift across to the break but that never materialised. Unfortunately for Bailey and Brody it wasn’t to be and the break was reeled in. Brody then tried a few times to form his own move but with so many lads eager for the win nothing stuck. Coming in the road to the finish and not being a sprinter Brody decided to tidy up affairs at the head of the race and put in a massive effort to real in lone rider Simon Twomey and set up the sprint for Bailey. In the rush to the line Bailey couldn’t get the gap he needed and finished top 20 full of frustration from his efforts of the day. With all the lads home safely it was a great and promising start to the 2015 season
Daire Feeley also pinned his first senior number on his back today. After a great breakthrough year last year he was eager for road today. Unfortunately after starting the break of the day in the A1/A2 race the lad suffered a terminal mechanical just 10km in. So for sure he was not a happy man. Again its a long season and based on the current form of the riders and their position in there periodised training prescriptions provided by The Athlete Clinic it suggests nothing but an increase in their abilities from where they are at present.
Next week will see the arrival of our new race clothing from Kalas.ie and also our new racing machines from O’Neills Cycles .We will also be providing live race updates on our twitter feed @iTap2015. Well done to all today from race organisers to riders on a good and safe event.
